A fatal crash at a Lehigh County shopping center is under investigation after an elderly driver died following a collision earlier this month.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the crash occurred at the West Valley Marketplace shopping center on Mill Creek Road in Lower Macungie Township.
The victim has been identified as Sik T. Chung, 84, of Wescosville.
The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office determined Chung died from an intracerebral hemorrhage hours after the crash, and ruled the death accidental.
Police say Chung was driving a Toyota Corolla and attempted to exit the shopping center parking lot and turn left onto Mill Creek Road.
At that time, a 2018 Audi Q5 traveling north on Mill Creek Road collided with Chung’s vehicle.
The Audi driver attempted to avoid the collision by swerving but was unable to prevent the crash.
Neither the driver nor a 12-year-old passenger in the Audi suffered injuries.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Understanding Fatal Car Accident Investigations in Pennsylvania
Whenever a fatal crash occurs, multiple agencies often participate in the investigation.
These may include:
- Pennsylvania State Police
- County coroners
- Accident reconstruction specialists
- Insurance investigators
Investigators attempt to determine:
- Whether any driver failed to yield
- If speed or distraction played a role
- Whether roadway conditions or visibility contributed

The goal is to determine whether negligence contributed to the crash.
Legal Options After a Fatal Crash
When a person dies due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident, surviving family members may have the right to pursue compensation through:
- A wrongful death claim
- A survival action on behalf of the estate
These claims can seek compensation for:
- Medical treatment prior to death
- Funeral costs
- Loss of income and financial support
- Loss of companionship and family guidance
Because these cases involve both legal and medical analysis, it is important to speak with an experienced attorney as soon as possible.
